The Extra Care Card
You can apply for one online or in-store. If you do it in-store, you can begin using your card right away, so this is the best option.
CRT – Cash Register Tape
Every CVS has a “price scanner” near the front of the store. Scan your card there once a day and it will spit out coupons (also known as “CRT”). They are all CVS coupons and can be stacked with manufacturer’s coupons.
CRTs will also print out sometimes on your receipt.
Extra Bucks
EBs are coupons that are generated by purchasing certain products. For example…toothpaste often goes on sale “Free after EB”. This means if you purchase the toothpaste for $3.00 you will receive a $3.00 coupon off your next purchase at the bottom of your receipt.
You can also roll your EBs into the same deal. For instance, if the limit is more than 1 on the toothpaste, you can turn around with that $3.00 EB that you just earned and purchase it again. This time paying nothing OOP and still earning another $3.00 EB.
EBs are also earned on almost anything purchased in the store. Each quarter you will receive 2% EBs for everything you purchased. Rx also earn $1 EB for every two filled.
Every 3 months your Extra Bucks will print on your store register receipt, or visit CVS/pharmacy online to print your Extra Bucks.
Stacking Coupons
You can stack a CVS coupon and a MQ for the same item.
$/$$ Coupons
These are fantastic little gems. The first time you register your Extra Care Card on cvs.com you will receive an email for a $4/$20 purchase. This means you find $20 worth of stuff, hand them the $/$$ coupon first, then all other MQ, then pay with your EBs.
Example of a great deal:
A few weeks ago Aveeno was on sale and if you purchased $25 you received $10 in EBs. Here is what I did:
$25 worth or Aveeno Products
$4/$20 CRT
$12 in MQ
Paid with $9 EB
Earned $10 EB
Essentially I only MADE $1.00 on the deal since I was lucky enough to receive a $4/$20 CRT. These usually show up via email or as a CRT.
“Growing” your EBs
If a free after ECB toothpaste deal is going on this week AND you have a MQ for $1 off you can grow your EBs. You would purchase the toothpaste, use the $1 off MQ, pay with $2 EB from a previous deal and still receive a $3 EB. THAT is what we fondly refer to as a “money maker”
(Please note: You will not be actually “making money” in that the store will be paying you cash for shopping there, but you will be “making money” in that you will be spending less out of pocket than you get back in EBs.)
